Change

You may have noticed a change to the blog.  I like change - rearranging of furniture, sorting, throwing, piffing, organising, moving.

We have some big changes happening soon with the arrival of #2.  There is light at the end of the tunnel as I am due 6 weeks today.  Shite.  I am excited and scared.  Monet was a baby five years ago - will I remember what to do?

Not only will we have to be focusing on a newbie but also on getting Monet to school on time (she starts KG2 at the end of August) and picking her up (her school hours are 8 till 1.)  Luckily for us we have some terrific neighbours who have said that they will help out with Monet and school where and when they can.  Lucky too is that Lyndon is working very close to where she is going to attend and he can work around with the dropping off/picking up.

We live in a two-bedroom villa, which may be huge, but at the end of the day, it is a two-bedroom villa.  We will survive living here but we do want somewhere with three bedrooms, and if you knew just how much we pay to rent this place year, you'd seriously fall over on the spot and say we were crazy.  Lyndon's work give him a rental allowance which covers it all but a possible move is not out of the question.  And as I said before, we like change.

Having no family around, we have no one to rely on except ourselves, but we're tough.  I'll have no family support or visitors when baby arrives, but we do have our neighbours.  I think we all consider ourselves family as we are all in the same boat.  It is nice to know that we have some volunteers to be here to look after Monet, when #2 decides to make an appearance, and people Monet is comfortable with.

There is nothing in the world like meeting a newbie, like holding a newborn and saying "G'day, welcome to the world baby" and knowing that they will be all ours, when our family of three becomes a family of four.  A family who are not scared to face new challenges alone and who like change.

Roll on early September, roll on!!

Oh, and by the way, Happy 'big-number' Birthday to Big Sister yesterday, who bopped away to U2 in Ireland to celebrate last night.

ooh, 6 weeks to go! I admire you, Melody, that is for sure.

Embracing change is a good thing, and as you say, new baby is a wonderful change.

And the new blog looks good too!

Oooh, nice change to the blog. And oooh, only 6 weeks to go. I have 3+ years between mine and didn't remember a bloody thing (maybe I'd pushed it all from my mind? LOL) The book "Babies first year for dummies" was a godsend.
As for the being far away from family, etc, we moved away when #2 was 8 months old so not a tiny little newborn but still very little. Look, it was hard work but you get through it. Mostly because you have no choice, but also because you seek out friends in a similar situation and you all help each other out. You're a heap luckier than I was in that you live in a compound with a bunch of expats dealing with similar stuff. You'll be great, just remember to ask for help and accept all help that is offered.

No family to visit in hospital made me really sad. Thank goodness for email, mobile phone photos and skype!

When my sister flew to Taiwan to adopt her son we had mobile phone photos of him and them together less then 30 minutes later. It made us feel part of the process.

6 weeks to go... Gosh, this pregnancy seems to have gone fast (for those of us that are not you) ;)

The expat community is amazing. That your neighbours, friends and colleagues become your 'away from home' family is awesome :)
