In the morning, many parents (myself included) set up in the gym, displays of their country. The Australian stand was co-joined with New Zealand and our displays were overloaded with books, stuffed animals, flags, boomerangs and a very special football jumper...
(I'm sure Grandad would've been very proud to see the Western Bulldogs represented in an UAE school - it was the only football team represented!!)
We all too bought along sample of food from our country. Our stand was awash with Pavlovas, lamingtons, Vegemite sangas, fairy bread, chocolate crackles and a very special slice (made by yours truly!), a Jelly slice - it originated in Melbourne apparently and bloody hell, it was delicious and oh so easy! (That's it there with the green jelly on top.)
Besides having countries represented in forms of display stalls and food, the children from the younger grades, did performances. Some grades did really well, especially the children from KG2C - oh, that would be MissM's class...
I was very proud as MissM spoke in a loud and clear voice of where she was from and what she liked about her country (Koalas!)...
...All her little buddies did well and I felt mighty proud.
Not only was I proud of MissM and her little spiel, I was also proud of the fact that I am Australian! A terrific day of International proportions. I'm already looking forward to next year's International Day.

Go doggies!
What? You shared a stand with New Zealand? What were you thinking?
I love a bit of Kiwi vs Aussie rivalry. We lived in NZ for a couple of years and boy, never tell a kiwi that phar lap was an australian horse!
Jelly slice is one of my all time favorites. I use my Nannie's recipe. It's delicious!
What a WONDERFUL idea, Melody. It opens up all of the kids minds to other country's and the beauty of those country's, and the pride everyone has in the country they are from!
I bet there was a lot of interesting food at this International Day--just seeing what you all had at your table...WOW! So that would be fun too....And dear little MissM....How sweet was that...!
What a great day. Did you and the New Zealanders fight over whose national dish the pavlovas and the lamingtons are...?
Sounds like a wonderful day. I'm proud of MissM too :)
Sounds brilliant.
I laughed out loud at Violet and Rose's comment about sharing a table with New Zealand!
Some people thunk there's only a but of dufference between Australia and New Zealand.Wushful thunking usn't ut! See the teacher's relaxed hand? - the one that's not holding the microphone? I tend to do that, and my grown daughter says "Mum,you got the kangaroo paw goin' again!". Sounds like a great day and the team effort with N.Z was a wonderful inspiration/unspuration.Loved the photos.
