OUT
I've gone and 'outed' myself on Facebook. I've been toying with the idea for a while and thought I'd just bite the bullet. Why not? *argh....what have I done????* ;p
So hopefully I have found myself some new readers. (Hi to you if you are one of them!)
I know I'm not the world's most fabulous/witty/interesting/smartest writer or blogger out there, but I enjoy blogging, which is why I do it. There have been many a times when I wanted to throw in the towel with this blog, but I love to reread times gone by, which is why I continue tapping away at the keys.
I now have a Facebook Fan page, come by and 'Like' me if you'd like! *heehee* You can do so by clicking HERE.
Feel free to leave me comments here or over there. It is easy to do. If my own Mother can, I'm sure you can too!

Yas Hotel
2009 saw the first Formula One race held at Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The center piece of this track is the amazing Yas Hotel.
I took my recent VIP there for a gander. She was impressed. Just as well, as it is a pretty impressive looking piece of architecture.

| The race track runs betweens these two buildings which are joined by what seems like netting. |

| At night, the netting changes different colours. Very spectacular. |
UAE Born Aussie girl loves Tim Tams
The UAE has seemed to had an influx of a million packs of Tim Tams in the past few weeks. They've been available in most supermarkets which is unheard of!
Who can resist a Tim Tam? I know a certain one year old who cannot.

Masdar
I took my VIP (that would be my sister) to visit an area in Abu Dhabi called Masdar City yesterday. I'd been wanting to have a 'sticky beak' for a while now, since I see the cranes in operation every day.
It sits nestled in between Khalifa City A (that's a suburb - strange name eh?) and the International Airport. It is going to be the world's first Carbon Neutral City. And from it you can see the Grand Prix track on Yas Island and there are flash and fancy cars in the construction carpark, but hey, the idea is there, the money is there, the concept is there and someone/company is having a fair crack of developing a City of the Future. And being in the UAE, that's game. Here, people are the worst for being environmentally friendly ('Green Bags' have only really come about in the past 6 months and recylcing too for that matter.) This country has something like the world's highest per capital of energy consumption. So really, in reality, I guess the Capital of such a country is the perfect place.
At the moment, the 'City' houses 'Masdar Institute', which is a University. There is also student accommodation, a Japanese restaurant (which is meant to be delicious) and an Organic Supermarket. As I just wanted to have a look, I used the supermarket as my excuse.
When you arrive, you park your car in a multi-storey car park and then enter a concrete 'waiting station'. (Believe me when I say it is very futuristic!) Then, you catch a Pod. A driver-less, four-seater Pod. It runs on magnets and it honestly felt like we were set on some Hollywood Science fiction movie. Weird. I can give you the report that Lily was not a fan.
Currently there is only one stop, so we (obviously) got off, walked up the stairs and landed at the University. The Organic Supermarket was directly outside the door so we wandered around a little and got loads of Indian Labourers stopping in their tracks, to watch one particular little blonde-headed Aussie chickadee walking around. She waved. That made them show us their pearly whites.
We weren't there for long, not a heap to look at at the moment, but it was good to actually see what they've been building and doing on that big desert paddock I see practically every day!
I can definitely tell you, it is a city of the future and if that is anything to go by, it is going to be an amazing place when it's finished.

I Feed Spiders To My Girls For Their Dinner.
It's true. I do.
Sure the spiders are made out of home-made rissoles, with capsicum/red pepper legs and noses with olives and mayo eyes, sitting upon a bed of pesto infused rice-shaped pasta, but they are spiders just the same.
If the littlest member of this family eats any of them, my job here is done. And eat them she does, or at least attempts to.

Today's Outing
Any ideas where I took Kimbofo today?
Here are some clues - it houses a big indoor Aquarium...
...which is opposite a massive 'Sweet Shop' (check out the Lolly-Pop Tree)...
There's a massive indoor waterfall....
The place makes the 19 month old quite happy when she knows there are hot chippies on the lunch menu...
...and sits at the foot of the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.
Answer: Dubai Mall.
(It also houses a M A S S I V E bookstore which the book-loving older sister of myself could've spent all day in, given half the chance!)

Abu Dhabi 2011 and a visit to The Heritage Village
With both girls suffering from slight head colds, I did manage to send Monet to school for the day (hers has just about gone after a school absent day on Thursday). Lily, on the other hand, besides having a shite night's sleep did well today, still carrying on per normal bar a runny nose.
With my VIP leaving this week, I wanted to take her to the Heritage Village. We did go to visit the village the second day she was here but it was closed to the general public (it was Dish-Dash city). With time running out, I decided today I would take her there. I had taken my parents there in November last year and MrL's parents earlier on this year.
I love the view you get from the Village, as it sits out on a man-made section of land, directly opposite the Corniche, which is the main road that seperates the Gulf and the city.
There is a family of Ducks which call the Heritage Village home, today we spotted a new family addition. He/She was sooooo cute and Lily was quite taken with the little yellow duckling.
(All photos taken with my phone)
I'm pretty sure Kimbofo liked the village, bar the fact that it was pretty hot and sweaty out there today. Lovely, not!
I found on the internet a link last week that showed Abu Dhabi today, (as in 2011 today, not today as in May 1st). It is filmed in time lapse and I think it is fabulous. It shows you some of the history of the city and what it took to get to what the place looks like today. Take a look at my home city and enjoy.
